Background of the Study

Technology has emerged as a transformative force in education, reshaping instructional methods and enhancing student engagement across various disciplines, including physical education. In Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Kano State, the integration of technology in physical education instruction is becoming increasingly relevant as schools seek to modernize traditional teaching approaches. The use of digital tools, multimedia resources, and interactive platforms has the potential to revolutionize the way physical education is delivered, making lessons more dynamic and accessible (Aminu, 2023). Through the incorporation of technology, educators can offer personalized learning experiences that cater to diverse student needs, thereby improving both motivation and performance in physical activities. The application of technology in physical education is not only limited to enhancing instructional delivery but also extends to the monitoring and evaluation of student progress, providing real-time feedback and data analytics (Bello, 2024). Furthermore, technology facilitates the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application, enabling students to understand complex concepts related to biomechanics, health, and fitness. Interactive simulations, video demonstrations, and virtual training sessions enrich the learning experience, fostering a deeper understanding of physical education principles. In addition, the use of wearable devices and mobile applications allows for the tracking of individual performance metrics, promoting self-assessment and goal-setting among students. However, despite the promising benefits, the effective use of technology in physical education faces several challenges in Kano Municipal. Limited access to modern technological infrastructure, inadequate training for educators, and budget constraints are significant barriers that impede the full realization of technology's potential in enhancing physical education instruction (Chidiebere, 2025). Moreover, the digital divide in terms of access and proficiency among students further complicates the implementation process. This study aims to assess the current state of technology integration in physical education instruction within Kano Municipal, examining both its benefits and challenges. By employing a mixed-methods approach, the research will analyze quantitative data on technology usage and qualitative insights from educators and students. The findings are expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of how technology can be effectively harnessed to improve physical education outcomes, thereby informing policy and practice in the local educational context (Dangana, 2024).

Statement of the Problem

Although the integration of technology in physical education instruction offers significant benefits, its effective implementation in Kano Municipal Local Government Area faces several challenges. A primary problem is the inadequate technological infrastructure in many schools, which limits access to digital tools and interactive platforms essential for modern physical education (Eze, 2023). Additionally, there is a lack of comprehensive training for physical education teachers on how to effectively incorporate technology into their teaching practices. This gap in educator preparedness results in underutilization of available technological resources, thereby diminishing their potential impact on student engagement and learning outcomes. Moreover, budgetary constraints further restrict the acquisition and maintenance of advanced technological equipment necessary for enhancing instruction. Furthermore, the rapid pace of technological change poses a challenge for schools to continuously update their systems and methodologies. In many cases, outdated equipment and limited technical support hinder the integration of innovative teaching tools. The digital divide also remains a concern, as disparities in access to technology among students can lead to unequal learning opportunities. These issues contribute to a scenario where the promise of technology-enhanced physical education remains largely unfulfilled. There is a notable lack of empirical research focusing on the specific obstacles that prevent the optimal use of technology in physical education within the local context (Folarin, 2024). This deficiency in research makes it difficult for policymakers and educational administrators to design effective interventions that address the unique challenges faced by schools in Kano Municipal. Consequently, despite the recognized potential of technology to transform physical education instruction, its benefits are not uniformly experienced by all students. This study seeks to systematically investigate the factors hindering the effective use of technology in physical education and to propose evidence-based strategies to overcome these challenges (Giwa, 2025). Through this investigation, the research aims to provide actionable insights that will contribute to the development of a more modern and effective physical education curriculum for lasting sustainable success.

Objectives of the Study

• To evaluate the extent of technology integration in physical education instruction in Kano Municipal.

• To identify the challenges and barriers to effective use of technology in physical education.

• To propose strategies for enhancing technology use to improve physical education outcomes.

Research Questions

• How is technology currently being utilized in physical education classes in Kano Municipal?

• What are the main challenges preventing effective technology integration in physical education?

• What strategies can be adopted to improve the use of technology in physical education instruction?

Research Hypotheses

• H1: The integration of technology in physical education significantly enhances student engagement and learning outcomes.

• H2: Inadequate technological infrastructure and teacher training negatively affect the use of technology in physical education.

• H3: Implementing targeted strategies will improve the effectiveness of technology integration in physical education.

Significance of the Study

This study is significant as it explores the critical role of technology in transforming physical education instruction in Kano Municipal. The research provides insights into how digital tools and interactive platforms can enhance teaching methods and student engagement. The findings will guide educators and policymakers in developing strategies to overcome technological challenges and improve learning outcomes. Additionally, the study contributes to the growing body of literature on technology integration in education, offering a framework for future research and practical interventions. Ultimately, the study supports efforts to modernize physical education and create a more dynamic learning environment for lasting sustainable success.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study is limited to assessing the use of technology in physical education instruction in Kano Municipal Local Government Area. It focuses on the implementation of digital tools, multimedia resources, and interactive platforms within selected schools. The research does not extend to other academic subjects or regions outside Kano Municipal, and findings are limited to the observed educational settings. Variables outside the school environment, such as home access to technology, are not considered.
